Welcome to HaloBestie. Protecting user privacy is one of our core principles. This Privacy Policy explains how HaloBestie collects, uses, stores, and protects information when you access or use our mobile application, website, and related services.

HaloBestie is designed to provide a safe and anonymous space where users can express thoughts, feelings, or concerns through conversations with trained peer listeners (“Besties”). To support this mission, we intentionally minimize the collection of personal information and design our system to prioritize anonymity wherever possible.

By accessing or using HaloBestie, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

1. Information We Collect

HaloBestie follows a data minimization principle, meaning we only collect information that is necessary to operate the platform, maintain security, and improve service quality.

1.1 Account Information

To create and maintain a HaloBestie account, the following information may be collected:

  • Phone Number – A phone number is required for account registration and authentication. This helps us verify legitimate users, prevent abuse, and maintain the safety and integrity of the platform. Phone numbers are not publicly visible to other users.
  • Anonymous Display Name – Users choose a nickname that will appear during venting sessions. This display name is intended solely for conversation purposes and does not represent or reveal a user's real identity.
  • Optional Email Address – Users may optionally provide an email address for account recovery or communication with support. Providing an email address is not required to use the service.

To preserve anonymity, the anonymous display name is not intended to contain real identity information.

In addition, system architecture is designed so that the anonymous display name and phone number are not directly paired in user-facing interactions. Other users and Besties cannot view a user's phone number.

HaloBestie does not require users to provide real names, government identification, or detailed personal profiles to access the core service.

1.2 Session Information

During conversations between users and Besties, messages may be temporarily processed to facilitate communication and maintain service functionality.

Conversation data is handled with strict confidentiality and is used only for purposes such as:

  • Enabling real-time communication
  • Maintaining platform safety
  • Investigating abuse or misuse if necessary

HaloBestie does not publicly display private conversations.

1.3 Technical and Usage Data

Like most digital platforms, HaloBestie may automatically collect limited technical data in order to maintain reliability and security. This may include:

  • Device type
  • Operating system version
  • Application version
  • Crash reports
  • Performance diagnostics
  • Basic usage analytics

This information helps us understand system performance, diagnose issues, and improve the overall user experience.

2. How We Use Your Information

The information we collect is used only for legitimate operational purposes, including:

  • Providing and maintaining HaloBestie services
  • Facilitating anonymous venting sessions between users and Besties
  • Ensuring platform safety and preventing abuse

HaloBestie does not use personal information for targeted advertising or commercial data selling.

We also do not send marketing communications unless users explicitly request or opt in to receive them.

HaloBestie respects user privacy and does not sell, rent, or trade personal information to advertisers, marketing companies, or data brokers.

Information may only be disclosed under the following limited circumstances:

Service Providers

When information is no longer required, reasonable steps are taken to securely delete, anonymize, or aggregate the data so that it can no longer be associated with an individual user.

Our systems are designed to minimize the long-term storage of personally identifiable information.

Users maintain control over their information and may request to:

  • Access information associated with their account
  • Update or correct account details
  • Request deletion of their account
  • Withdraw consent for certain data processing activities
  • Request a copy of stored data where applicable
